The CAAC features the last work of the Portuguese artist Catarina Simão
The Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) presents the exhibition Off Screen, the latest of the Portuguese artist Catarina Simão (Lisbon, 1972). Focused on the Mozambique Film Archive, Off Screen showcases a number of momentous images from socialist propaganda films as governments considered to establish a national film industry as a potent way of create the country’s new image.
The exhibition highlights the influence of colonialism, imperialism, Cold War, capitalism and other political and social situations and conditions in the construction of the nation’s new identity.
Catarina Simão, artist, architect and researcher, has been working on the study of political transformations on image and the Mozambique State Film Archive since 2009. The results of this exploration can be seen in this exhibition now featured at the CAAC until next 3 June.
