New York holds the Pierre Gouthière: Virtuoso Gilder at the French Court exhibition until next 29th February. Pierre Gouthière (Bar-sur-Aube, France 1732-Paris, 1813/1814) was at his time a famous gilder. He was awarded the title “Doreur du Roi” from the king Louis XV and invented a new technique for gilding which produces a matt surface finish.
The exhibition features 21 artworks by Pierre Gouthière, one of the best metal worker of his period, which will allow those who visit the show to increase awareness of the work of this modern artist.
